Known from Morona Santiago in Ecuador, growing terrestrially in low mountain rainforest of Amazonia at around 700 m elevation. The specific epithet derives from Los Tayos, the area of the type collection.
This species is distributed across Venezuela, French Guiana, Bolivia and Brazil, growing epiphytically, and rarely terrestrially or on rocks, at elevations of 100 to 700 m.
