    About obtusifolia

An evergreen perennial herb native from southern Florida in the United States to tropical America. The stems creep slightly before turning upright, and the obovate, fleshy leaves have a smooth, glossy, waxy surface. Small flowers are borne on cylindrical spikes. Plants typically reach 10 to 50 cm in height and spread, and cultivars with yellow or cream variegated leaves are also grown.

    Care Tips

Grow in bright, indirect light. Deep shade causes weak, leggy growth, and strong direct summer sun can scorch the leaves. The fleshy leaves and stems store water, so water only after the potting mix has dried out, since overwatering leads to root rot. Keep the plant above 10°C in winter and away from cold draughts. It adapts to average indoor humidity. Pruning between leaves in early summer keeps the plant compact. It is listed as non-toxic to dogs and cats.
