A saxicolous bromeliad originally described as Cryptanthus tiradentesensis by Elton Leme. The specific epithet refers to the Tiradentes region in Minas Gerais state where the species occurs. Found in the Serra do Rola-Moça State Park area. Endemic to the campos rupestres of Minas Gerais in the Espinhaço Range. Grows on rocky outcrops in the montane grasslands. Some taxonomic treatments place this species in the genus Hoplocryptanthus.
