Occurs in the Mexican states of Aguascalientes, Durango, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Queretaro, San Luis Potosi and Zacatecas, growing in the highlands at elevations of 1,850 to 2,250 m as an epiphyte or lithophyte, usually forming large clumps. The specific epithet means twisted in Latin and refers to the winding leaves.
