This species is distributed from Ecuador through Peru (Guano Islands) to Chile (Tarapaca, Antofagasta, Atacama, and Coquimbo), growing terrestrially or epiphytically in arid coastal regions at elevations of 300-1,500 m. A subspecies is also known.
