    About atroviolacea

Tillandsia atroviolacea is an epiphytic bromeliad in the family Bromeliaceae, native to Mexico. It is a medium-sized xeric species forming a rosette of stiff, recurved leaves densely covered with silvery trichomes. Under high light conditions, the foliage develops a deep violet to dark purple coloration, which is reflected in the species epithet 'atroviolacea', derived from the Latin 'atro-' (dark) and 'violaceus' (violet). The inflorescence bears tubular flowers typical of the genus.

    Care Tips

This xeric species requires bright, direct sunlight and excellent air circulation. Water by misting or brief immersion 1–2 times per week during warm months, reducing frequency in winter. Leaves must dry completely within a few hours after watering to prevent rot at the base of the rosette. High light intensity promotes the characteristic violet leaf coloration. Avoid mounting or placing the plant in a position where water can accumulate at the stem base.
