A recently described species from the high-elevation forests of the Eastern Cordillera of Colombia, near Bogota. Named after Chingaza National Park where it was discovered. The species is notable for its floral parts densely covered with a resin-like substance and exceptionally long fruits. Although it has distichous flowers and petal appendages, morphological affinities place it in Tillandsia subgenus Allardtia rather than Vriesea.
