Aechmea blanchetiana is a bromeliad native to Brazil, forming large rosettes of strap-shaped leaves that range in color from orange to red depending on light exposure. The inflorescence bears a branched spike with small yellow flowers and persistent red bracts. It is one of the larger species in the genus, with rosettes reaching up to 1.5 meters in diameter.
A small deciduous pachycaul tree reaching up to 1.2m tall with a barrel-shaped trunk covered in corky, warty bark. Branches grow in a distinctive zigzag pattern. Produces tiny glossy compound leaves and small yellowish-green flowers. Dioecious species. Autumn foliage turns red before leaf drop.
