Native to Loja in Ecuador, where it grows as an epiphyte on trees in bush vegetation at about 2250 m. It grows solitarily or in small groups, propagating by shoots at the base of the rosette. The specific epithet honors Karine Bracke, who supported the study of Ecuadorian bromeliads with her husband Jose Manzanares.
Occurs along the Río Pachachaca in Apurímac, Peru, near the bridge between Abancay and Andahuaylas, and is known only from the type locality. It grows on rock walls at an elevation of 2500 m. Its epithet honors its discoverer, E. Kirschnek.
